Odor Mute is a blend of natural enzymes that eliminates organic odors by chemically changing the source of odors including urine, feces, and skunk. Easy to use indoors and outdoors.
Effective on all pet and animal odors
Concentrated -- mix to the strength needed
Economical -- a great product at a great price
Powdered -- easy to store and handle
Maintains full strength for up to 5 years
Enzymes eliminate odors, not just mask them
Odormute is non-poisonous, non-caustic, harmless to humans, plant life, and pets. The solution may be applied directly to grass and shrubbery with no harmful effects. The solution is nearly clear and lightly scented.
Any Organic Odor - Basic Solution
Important: Wear rubber gloves while using liquid solution. Prolonged contact with Odormute will remove dead skin cells on your hands and may cause redness and irritation. Wash with soap and cold water if this occurs.
Mix at a ratio of 1 tablespoon to one gallon of warm water.
Mix Odormute with warm water until completely dissolved. For best results, dissolve Odomute in a pint of warm water. Allow 5-10 minutes, mixing occasionally, to make sure all powder is dissolved. Then, add this solution to the rest of the water.
Enzymes are activated by adding warm water. Once activated, enzymes must be used within 4 hours for best results.
Water temperature must be between 45 degrees F and 90 degrees F. Freezing will not harm enzymes, however, temperatures above 140 degrees F will destroy them.
Skunk Odor
This is the most difficult odor to eliminate and may require repeat applications.
Note: we recommend increasing the strength of the solution to a ratio of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water. The strength of the Odormute solution can be increased with no harm to you or your pets.
Skunk Odor on clothing and Fabrics
**See "Fabric and Clothing". Follow the directions in this section using a solution of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water.
Skunk Odor on Pets
According to the manufacturer, occasional use on your pets is okay. However, prolonged exposure may cause skin irritation. Odor-Mute is not recommended for regular bathing.
Walls, Floors and Other Surfaces Exposed to Skunk Odor
Mix Odormute solution at a ratio of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water. Use a hand-held sprayer (or a larger Lawn and Garden Sprayer depending on the surface area to be treated). Spray any surface that may have been exposed to the odor through direct contact or air-borne odor. The solution may be sprayed on draperies if the contact was not direct, but air-borne. On some surfaces such as wood paneling, a slight residue may be left after drying. This can be removed with a damp cloth.
Carpets and Rugs
Note: the material and quality of carpets and pads vary greatly. Always test a small area before treating the total carpet. Hueter Toledo, Inc. will not be responsible for more than the replacement cost of the Odormute product.
Spots and Small Areas
Test a small area before use. Soak and let dry.
In large carpeted areas, all odor sources must be located and treated.
Dissolve 1 tablespoon in 1 quart of warm water. (Increasing the amount of Odormute will speed the action with no harm to people, pets or fabrics).
Soak the carpet and pad in the spots in need of treatment.
Allow to soak for 1 hour.
Remove all excess moisture and allow the carpet to dry. Failure to do so may produce mildew or ammonia odors. Suggestion: you may use towels, a hairdryer or fan to speed drying.
Entire Carpets
Test a small area before use. Soak and let dry.
You may use a carpet cleaning machine. Substitute Odormute solution for the carpet cleaning chemicals.
Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon Odormute to 1 gallon of warm water. Mix the amount of Odormute needed with 1 pint of warm water until completely dissolved (about 5-10 minutes). Add the solution to the carpet cleaning machine.
After the carpet has dried and the odor has been eliminated, you may shampoo the carpet as usual.
IMPORTANT: After soaking a carpet with Odormute solution, the area must be thoroughly dried! Failure to do so may produce a mildew or ammonia odor. If this occurs, you may retreat the carpet with Odormute solution, adding 4 tablespoons of
Baking Soda to the machine. The baking soda neutralizes the urine acid and has natural deodorizing properties.
Small areas may be dried with a hairdryer or electric fan. In larger areas, the carpet and pad should be lifted and thoroughly dried. Special care should be taken with a shag or heavy carpets with porous pads.
Odormute is not recommended for Oriental Rugs.
Fabric and Clothing: Washing Machine Instructions
Mix 3 Tablespoons of Odormute in 1 pint of warm water. Mix until completely dissolved (5-10 minutes).
Fill washing machine with warm (75 degrees F - 110 degrees F) water. Add Odormute solution to washer. Add clothing to washer.
Turn washer on and agitate for 2-3 minutes or until Odormute solution is evenly distributed.
Turn off washing machine and allow to soak for 1 hour.
Turn machine on and allow to run through a normal cycle. If the odor appears to have been eliminated to your satisfaction, you may add detergent at this time.
Cat Problems
Spraying: Mix Odormute solution at a ratio of 1 tablespoon of Odormute to 1 gallon of water. Mix Odormute in a pint of warm water until completely dissolved (5-10 minutes). Add this solution to the balance of the water to be used.
Using a sprayer (handheld or Lawn and Garden type, depending on the area to be treated) thoroughly spray the Odormute solution on the area the cat has sprayed. Be sure to treat behind any baseboards or other areas where the urine may have run. Odormute must come into direct contact with the source of the odor to eliminate it. Any residue left after drying can be removed with a damp cloth. Note: Odormute will eliminate odors but it is
not a deterrent and will not keep your cat from repeating this behavior.
Cat Urine on clothing or Fabric: See "Fabrics and Clothing".
Cat odors on carpet or rugs: See "Carpets".
Cat odors on Upholstery, Furniture and Mattresses: See "Upholstery and Furniture".
Upholstery, Furniture and Mattresses
Odor problems in these areas are extremely hard to treat because:
The Odormute solution must reach the source of the odor. With cushions and mattresses, this is often difficult.
Due to the type of material to be treated, it is often difficult to thoroughly dry the cushion or mattress after treatment. This can result in other problems such as mildew or ammonia odors. For these reasons, we recommend Odormute only as a last resort.
Hueter Toledo, Inc. will not be responsible for more than the replacement cost of the Odormute product.
Treatment
Mix Odormute at a ratio of 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon of water.
Allow to soak for 1 hour.
Dry thoroughly. Suggestions: towels, a fan, or an electric hairdryer may help. Extremely humid conditions may hinder the drying and create other problems. Odormute is not recommended for treatment on leather.
Kennels and Dog Runs
Initial Treatment: In areas with an extreme odor problem, use a solution of 1
tablespoon to 1 gallon of water. Mix Odormute in one pint of warm water until completely dissolved (5-10 minutes). Add this solution to the rest of the water and stir. Apply this solution with a Lawn and Garden type sprayer, sprinkling can or simply wash down the area with a bucket. The Odormute solution must reach the source of the odor to eliminate it. Allow to dry.
Regular Use after initial treatment: Use a solution mixed to a ratio of 1 tablespoon per 3 gallons of water following the directions above.
Other uses for Odormute
Odormute is effective in eliminating organic odors and is safe to use on any surface that is safe in warm water. If you are not sure, treat a small area before applying in full treatment. Use Odormute to treat: garbage cans, dumpsters, diaper pails, small animal cages, to remove smoke odor, to eliminate bad odors from refrigerators and freezers, etc. Odormute works on any organic odor.
I have used Odormute for years and it always works. Whether it's skunk odor, pet urine or any other organic odor, this product does the job.
Pros
Can be used in your washing machine or carpet cleaner. Can be used directly on your pet and also, on most surfaces (always do a spot check on any item you don't want color removed from, i.e., rugs). I've used this product on very old wool area rugs with no harm to them whatsoever.
Makes gallons, so really economical and great for treating large areas.
Cons
Only con is that you can't mix up a batch and store it for future use. Must be used within 4 hours of mixing, but the product works so well, it's not a big deal.
