The Kane PolyPet Heated Dog Mat with Adjustable Thermostat lets you select and maintain the ideal heat mat surface temperature for your dog. Be sure to read and follow all directions. The Kane Polypet is a heat-radiating appliance for animals and should always be used with a temperature control device. Do not cover Kane heat mats with any articles or materials other than the Kane Poly Pet Dog Heating Mat Cover which uses special material that doesn't trap heat. Use of any other cover / material can cause the heat mat to overheat.
Using the Kane Polypet Mat:
The TD-30 thermostatic control device will maintain any pre-selected temperature up to 110 degrees. The TD-30's touchpad features a bright and easy-to-read digital display, making it easy to program and maintain the ideal temperature for your pets and small animals.
Kane's unique "high limit" safety mechanism self-activates in the event of overheating and is equivalent to setting the thermostat at 105 degrees F.
NOTE: The AC plug is built-in to the back of the thermostat.
In the Dog House:
Place the mat so that the coiled spring portion of the electric power cord is at the back corner and can be secured and covered with a cord protector (such as a 1 1/4" diameter PVC pipe) to protect the cord from chewing. Be sure your pet cannot reach the unprotected lead-in. Use only outdoor-type weatherproof cable where it is exposed. Underground conduit is recommended. Always allow approximately half the floor space in your dog house or box for your dog to be able to move on and off the mat.
Testing Warmth:
The Kane Heat Mat may not feel warm to the touch, but as your dog lies on the mat surface, his body traps the heat, creating the desired warming effect. The heating element takes some time to warm up (when the mat is chilled, it may take several hours to reach maximum operating warmth). Be sure to test the mat where you intend to use it. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the mat to heat, then FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY place a pillow or cushion over the mat for 20 minutes to simulate your dog's body lying on the mat. Put your hand against the mat under the pillow or cushion to check the temperature. Be sure to remove the pillow or cushion to prevent damage to the heating unit or cause a fire risk.
Cleaning and Handling Instructions:
Unplug the Poly Pet Mat before cleaning. Don't pick the mat up by the electrical cord, as this may cause damage to the power cord and heating element. THE POWER CORD IS NOT A HANDLE. Kane heat mats may be safely high-pressure washed, brushed, and disinfected. Do not immerse the mat in any type of liquid. Reconnect only when the plugs are thoroughly dry.
Avoid Risk of Fire: Do not cover this appliance with any foreign materials (cushions, bedding, straw, etc.). This unit is a heat-radiating appliance for animals. Do not have any foreign materials within a 10" radius of the heat mat installation area. To cover or alter this appliance voids all warranty and liability of Kane Manufacturing and all subsidiaries.
Kane Manufacturer Warranty and Return Process:
Kane Manufacturing warrants its products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of one year from the date of purchase (power cords are not included in this warranty). Any product which we determine to be defective will be replaced or repaired (at our option) for no charge. Defective products can be returned to the retailer where they were purchased or shipped to our factory.
Prior authorization for returns (RGA#) should be obtained from Kane Manufacturing prior to shipping. Kane Manufacturing will assign your return request and authorization number. Shipments need to be prepaid with the authorization number visible on each carton within 30 days after authorization (collect or unauthorized shipments will not be accepted). Make sure your name and address are clearly marked on the product.
Include a copy of the invoice with product indicating date of purchase. Kane Manufacturing is not liable for loss or damage resulting from the alteration, misuse, or abuse of the product. Kane heat mat warranty is limited to repair or replacement of the product.

I have several of these. If used correctly they will save lots of pups.. Kinda wish they made one a little smaller with a slick finish (would help in cleaning it). But I do like them better than anything else I've used.

Purchased heated mat for outside kenneldog house. The product exceeded my expectations and appears to be very durable. While the cost is rather high the durability will more than make up for the replacement costs of lower cost options. The power and heating lights on the thermostat are a very convenient way to to determine if power is getting to the element and when the the product is functioning.

I waited a little bit before reviewing. #1 I wanted a product where my outside dog could have a comfortable spot during the cold snaps we have in Texas. Agreed we don't get as cold as our friends to the north, but we (dogs included) are not used to it. I wanted a US made product that I could feel confident wouldn't set the place on fire. I think I found it. Truly, only 4 1/2 stars for now. If I can start it up again next winter, then it is a definite 5 stars. My dog is smart enough that he slept on it on our 1st serious cold front. That was the entire point of the purchase. So, I know my dog uses it, and I trust products made here at home. My rating will go up every year that it continues to work. Thanks, Chris

This is not just a plug in and heat up mat. The cord from the mat to the Thermostat has to be plugged into the Thermostat box after the Thermostat unit is plugged into the wall. This sequence has to be done whenever it is moved to another outlet. The heating mat is hard, and the cover (purchased separately), is NOT soft. Instructions say that nothing except the cover made for the mat can be used on top of the mat. The heated mat does not seem warm even when the thermostat is turned to 100 for several hours. This unit is overpriced for what it is.
