Compass

The next selection is the digital compass. From the Compass screen you can "Go to Start", "Go to Point" and Calibrate your compass.

"Go to Start" allows you to mark the location of your vehicle or starting point at the beginning of a new hunt. There can only be one "Starting point" at a time. When you get ready to change location and set a new starting point, your handheld will clear out the old starting point. To get the direction and distance to your starting point, highlight the word "go to Start" and press the right arrow key. A green arrow will appear on the compass screen and it will point in the direction of your starting point. Under the arrow will be the word "START." Under the word Start will be the distance from your current location to your starting point.

Please note that you must mark your starting point before you begin a hunt. If you do not mark your new starting point, your handheld will retain the previous starting point. Not marking the location of your current starting point is a good way to get lost.

"Go to Point" allows you to select a marked "way point." To select one of your marked way points, highlight the words "Go to Point" and select the arrow key to the right. This opens the "Way Points" Screen. The Way Points screen lists all of your marked locations. Use your up and down arrow keys to move between the marked locations. Select the one you want to appear on the the compass and press the right arrow key.

Selecting the way point will return you to the Compass screen. A green arrow will appear on the compass screen and it will point in the direction of the way point that you have chosen. Under the arrow will be name of the way point. Under the name will be the distance from your current location to the way point.

The selected way point will remain on the compass screen until you select a different way point. You may only navigate to one way point at a time. To select a different way point, highlight "Go to Point" and select the next way point.

Calibration - You must Calibrate the electronic compass to get an accurate location to be able to track your dogs. Trying to track with out proper calibration will make it very difficult to locate your dogs. We recommend that you calibrate the compass after you arrive at a new starting location, after periods of storage, after you install new batteries, or after tracking from a vehicle. You must calibrate the compass outdoors and away from objects that may generate magnetic fields, such as cars, buildings, or overhead power lines.

Highlight the word CALIBRATE. Select the right arrow key. Rotate the unit in all three dimensions 2 to 3 times until the black circles on the bar graph are as close as possible to the green center. When you are finished, the Handheld will beep, vibrate, and display a message that says your "CALIBRATION DATA HAS BEEN UPDATED SUCCESSFULLY."

If you are unable to get the compass to automatically update your calibration data, rotate until the black indicators are as close as possible to the green zone and press the Menu Selection Pad to continue. At the prompt "DO YOU WANT TO SAVE THE NEW CALIBRATION DATA?" press the arrow keys to select YES.
