Steve Says:

Transcript from Steve's Video:

This is the Kimar 209 primer pistol. It is a midline priced large frame primer pistol. The primer is a 209 shotgun primer. They are very inexpensive. If you shoot a lot of blanks it's a good choice for folks. The thing you've got to know about 209's is that they are difficult to ship. They are classified as a hazardous material. And so, they are very expensive to ship. So you need to make sure that you can get them locally before you can buy a 209 primer.

Kimar has a swing-out cylinder, ejector. It is a double-action pistol, which means you can either cock it to fire it or you can pull the trigger to fire it.

One of the complaints that we occasionally get about the Kimar pistol is that the trigger pull is pretty heavy. Some folks have a hard time with pulling the trigger on these. So if you have teenage folks that help you with it, or some of our female customers have had trouble with them as far as just comfortably being able to fire this pistol.

Overall, though, for a midline priced pistol it's done a really good job for us. With the Kimar pistol you get a hard-shell carrying case, plus you get a cleaning rod. Really important on blank pistols to keep them clean. You get a much longer lifespan out of them if you clean them once in a while.

I would like to see more blaze orange on the gun.

Some of the places I train are in or near town and I fear getting the police called because of the lack of color.

I do like the finish on the gun. Seems to be pretty durable. I don't take the best care of the pistol. To be honest I dont take any care of it. I have never cleaned it, oiled it, or even wiped it down.

It stays in the truck or in the garage and no signs of rust.

By: Fred Jagow From MI

Very nice gun. Well balanced, not too light & not too heavy. Report is louder than the .22 blank pistols I have used in the past. Gun appears well made for the value; not cheap pot metal as some of the other starter pistols I've used.
Last time I checked, .22 blanks were running $10-12/100; shotshell primers are running around $4/100....you do the math! Also, .22 blanks can be very hard to find, even in an urban setting; 209 shotshell primers are relatively easy to come by.
Overall, I would say that I am very, very pleased with this training pistol.

Steve, I really like the gun and you're right about the trigger pull. A little stiff but I pulled it apart and lubed it with Miltec-1. Now it's not that stiff. I like the heavy, full frame ruggedness of the gun. The only thing I would change about the gun is have a orange grip on it. So if you're training a young dog and you lay it down in the grass. GREAT GUN.

Chesapeake. Hunts. Competes.

Couldn't get primers in one of the chambers; closing cylinder was difficult. Craftsmanship could be better.

Owns 2 dogs. Trigger pull is unnecessarily heavy. No reason for it to be so very hard for a woman, or senior person with a little arthritis in their hands to fire this BLANK gun!!

Labrador. Owns 20 dogs. Hunts. Family pet. Competes.

I gave it 2 stars because it is a nice gun WHEN it works. Fired less than 150 rounds through it and has broken twice. The first time I spent $65 getting the pin fixed, less than 2 weeks later it is broke again. Going to quite wasting my money on cheap products and go for the ones that actually hold up.

It stopped working after only 6 months of use. I talked to another person who said his same gun keeps breaking the same way. It breaks the flat steel plate that goes between the hammer and firing pin and will not work.

Less than 1000 rounds through it and the ejector is shot. Keep a pocket knife handy as you have to pick the shot primers out manually. Looks like I'm saving for a GunX

Yellow Lab. Hunts. Family pet.

I bought it because of the affordability of the 209 primer shells compared tot he price of .22 blanks. The pistol worked great for the first month and then began to light strike. Eventually the striking was always too light to fire.

Cheapeake. Owns 11 dogs. Hunts. Family pet. Competes.

Way too many problems with this gun. Action would jam constantly, trigger so hard to pull in double action it would take two hands, sometimes wouldn't fire at all. Even stiff in single action. Sent it back to be serviced, (they were very nice, no questions asked) but when it came back the problem started again after less than a dozen shots. It\'s currently in pieces in a ziploc bag waiting for me to decide if I want to try and fix it myself.

I have a hard time getting any of these pistols to last more than 6 months to a year with not a real lot of use. You, however, have been more that fair to deal with when they break down.

I sent it back right away. I had a very hard time getting the cylinder out to load it. No way my 16 year old bird boy could do it. I also had a hard time cocking the hammer. I called and asked if they were all like that, and the person I spoke to said yes. Why would you sell a product like that?

Labs. Owns 2 dogs. Hunts. Family pet. Competes.

Steve, I bought this in March of 2010, It probably lasted about a year or so and only went through maybe 200 primers before it broke. The springs in the trigger/hammer mechanism fell apart, and it would not cycle appropriately. I ended up buying a gun X, a lot more money than I had hoped but it certainly has already been much more reliable than the Kimar. I think this is one of those you get what you pay for type items.

Steve Snell is the best.

Do not buy this gun. Some Italian fell off the truck. The stripper slides right buy the blanks and you sit out there trying to dig them out. Horrible design. Here I am buying another one from Steve though.
